shizunatsu [ leebot ]	8:36p	Some thoughts on plagiarism As many of you probably noticed, one of my fics (Cosplay) was recently plagiarized and posted to Fanfiction.net. A few people messaged me about it, and many more criticized the plagiarist in reviews or reported the story. For this, I thank you all. :) Don't worry, I don't feel put off about this at all. In fact, I at first took it as a bit of a compliment that I was worth stealing from. That feeling went away when this "explanation" for the plagiarist was forwarded to me: "Owo who? i wrote this a long time ago and i sold it to someone...i just found it on my laptop's files again and put it up..." Okay, so she's insulted me by saying I'd buy a fic. And then post it for free. And she's insulted anyone she expects to buy that story. Hell, the original story was even in her favorites. Calling this a transparent lie would be giving it too much credit. I might have been left with a sliver of respect for her if she'd owned up to it, or said she just wanted it to be shared again so more people would read and just didn't think it through. But no, can't even give her that. What I'm really wondering is, what's the point? It's not like she's doing this to pass a class or as part of a job; she just reposted a free fic on the same site. She didn't even have any other fics that she might have been trying to draw attention to. So what's the point? (8 Comments |Comment on this)
